SnippetsLab App Reviews

Good but not the best

This app is good with a very beautiful interface but there is some little bugs (certainly fixed in the next update). There is also, for me, some importants features missing : - Tags - Ability to divide a snippet in cells like as Quiver” do. So I stay on Quiver even if the interface isn’t as good as SnippetsLabss one. The 4th star will coming with the fix of all the bugs, and the 5th will coming with adding the missing features.

Good app - But iCloud service not working property

The app is well designed, good puppose. But the iCloud storage is not working property! Not syncing through the devices. Hope you guys solve this bug soon!

Nice design, clumsy layout, not feature complete

In general, this tool fulfills its promises: Its able storing code snippets. Pros: - iCloud sync. - Nice layout, some standard dark themes available. Cons: - iCloud sync does not mean iCloud Drive Sync - you cannot access the snippets externally. - UX is horrible: Sometimes the cursor jumps back and characters get deleted. Not for heavy-load productive usage. - No possibility to set a default language for snippets w/in a folder. I want my snippets in pure text residing in the same folder structure as in the application on the iCloud drive. - Syntax highlighting rules cannot be adjusted. - No real TextMate themes support - you need to take whats available. In general, this is a nice approach and I wish the developer all the best making this nicely designed tool more functional.

Great,

Great app, no hangups any more.

Works splendidly!

All the errors I’ve had in the previous update (1.2.2) have been ironed out and the app performs as described! Definitely a great way to store recurring pieces of code!!

Not bad but doesn’t do syntax highlighting for Python

It’s a good product. There are a few bugs to work out though. No matter what theme you select your text stays black. Thus the any dark theme is usless at the moment. There is also no syntax highliting for Python. Or if there should be it’s broken.

Excellent app getting better

I absolutely like this app, having all my snippets so close and in one place is very useful for my workflow. And the copy paste works between Mac and Windows on a virtual machine, whitch is great. The developper is highly responsive, all the features i requested in the previous review were implemented : more cloud services, automatic language selection, and more themes. I only wish he kept the preview panel while hoovering on the snippet title. Because with time you may forget how you called the snippet, but when you see the code you know exactly what it does. Now these are my new requests : please delete the snippet creation function from the assistant menu and keep it as function of the main window, AND replace the search button by the user created folders(selected languages) in a way that when the user hovers on a specific language, he sees only the snippets related to that language and when he hoovers on the snippet the preview panel of that snippet appears. And keep the action of the onclick predefined by the user. Thank you again for the good work, i showed the app to a lot of my classmates ( Analyst Programmers )and the really loved it.

Can’t icloud sync

I Cant icloud sync pls fix it ! The iCloud is unavailable or there is no logged-in user. Please review your settings. (error -236) Yes, im logged-in, and already syncing photos and safari bookmarks

Very good application

Downloaded, installed and - like it!

Отличное приложение

Briliant and really useful! Thank you.

Awesome tool

This is an awesome tool to have! ps. Would be nice in the future to have it linked with Gist!

Garbage

Every version crashes. We arent talking about a program thats all that sophisticated. This shouldnt be happening.

Great Improvements

SnippetsLab continues to get major improvements; the developer is doing a great job maintaining it. The ability to control the line-height and other code editing styles makes it much more user-friendly. I also really like the ability to apply a default syntax to a folder; not sure if this is a new feature but it works great. The next feature Im hoping to see is an expanded section for notes. Currently the space for notes is very small; I almost always have to put my notes about a snippet at the top in a comment block. Other than this, the app is getting pretty close to excellent. Another helpful feature would be a field for recording the source of the snippet, such as a URL or book title. PREVIOUS REVIEW: SnippetsLab is promising and may end up being the best snippet manager on the market. Right now though, Ive stopped using it because the interface feels so cramped. The line height in the code section is extremely tight and the notes section is so small that its basically unusable. Typing code is also an issue because it lacks basic features like adding a closing bracket when you type an open bracket, and aligning/indenting a new line when you hit enter. The developers are doing a pretty good job of adding new features though, so hopefully the UI issues will be worked out.

Looked great until I lost everything

I liked the polished look and feel of the app, but then the database got corrupted, and nothing would open, not even backups (I get a wrong verion error). There is no easy way to get support, and so I had to ditch it - $10 down the drain. Too bad, it seemed promising.

Life-changing app

I’m a data analyst in academia. I always find myself in the situation of needing do something in python that I only will need to do once every four months. My memory isn’t my strong suit, so when those four months have passed, I always have to re-google and solve these problems over and over again. Snippetslab has totally changed that for me. I just take the resulting code and write a few notes about it and drop it into Snippetslab. This has saved me sooo much time! It’s also nice because it done highlight for Python, making the notes easy to read. I cannot recommend this application enough!

Great app, but where’s full screen?

C’mon guys…no full screen? Besides that, loving the app so far!

Pretty Good!

I would like Markdown support, and (probably far in the future) custom theme support. I will settle for even more themes though! I do like that I basically have GitHub Gists on my desktop. Keep up the good work.

Great App. Designed Very Well.

This app is pretty amazing. You can tell that the author put a lot of effort into the smallest of design elements, such as padding in the columns and window resize limits. Color themes are nice too. It does as expected, and gracefully. It gets four stars from me, five if the following are added/fixed. Feature request: Drag and Drop reordering of snippets in the second column. Right now they are ordered by date of entry. Feature request: Dark mode for menu bar icon assistant. If OSX is in dark mode, it should change to the appropriate color. In my opninion. Bug: When creating a folder, when the app prompts you to name it, the text is white on white. You can’t see what you are typing. Only after you commit the name, can you see what you’ve typed. OS X. Yosemite. 10.10.3

Lack of Swift syntax highlighting

Ignore my previous gripe. This app is absolutely amazing.

Very nice app, few small changes and it’d easily be 5 stars

This app is a GREAT lightweight code snippet management app, I’ve been using it for a few days and would like to outline a feq quick PROS, and also some CONS that if addressed would easily make this 5 stars. I use this app daily already though! PROS: * Lightweight * Menu-bar access * Supports MANY languages for code-highlighting * iCloud sync across apple devices * Access to snippets directly from menu bar * Ability to “hide dock icon” when using app primarily through menu-bar * Nice set of stock themes * Easy Sharing of Snippets to web or via other means * Simple editor customization (tab spaces) * Snippet previews from menu-bar are awesome, and the menu itself is cleanly designed CONS: * No support for third party code snippet providers such as PasteBin, GitHub Gists, etc. * No support for social-login/third party login- locks experience and access to snippet to Apple Devices. * Need easy way to group snippets by code-language, right now I have to manually create folders for each language. Folders are powerful and should remain as-is but having another view to just see snippets by language would be excellent. * Snippet previews from menu-bar need option for word wrap, long snippets which are wrapped in the main editor show as single line in the menu-preview * Snippet previews from menu-bar do not match theme of main editor * Snippet previews from menu-bar are fixed height, short snippets or those that aren’t wrapped (to the above point) show a large white box, could be auto-sized to the snippet with a max-height so it scrolls beyond that, cofigurable preferably. * Menu Icon should have a “dark” mode, when I use the dark theme on the menu bar the icon sticks out like a sore thumb as its white and all the other menu bar icons have a dark-theme-variant that isn’t as high contrast. Overall this is still my favorite OS-based snippet manager thus far. I really hope the dev takes these suggestion to hear as I’d happily give this 5 stars with the above changes. And linking within third party sites like Pastebin/Gist is something I’d be willing to pay for in-app if that helps to motivate the developer to implement it. The biggest shortcomings right now are in the powerful but currently somewhat lackluster menu-bar preview. Definitely worth the purchase if you’re a developer!
